2016-2017 School Year - Funds Raised This Year = $8,309.75 - TOTAL RAISED SINCE 2009 = $80,522.75

We kicked off the year with a t-shirt sale and a successful Walk For Water on Saturday, September 24th. In November we spoke to the Stillwater Lions Club and sold H2O for Life Kazuri bead bracelets, note cards featuring student artwork and gift cards at the 1st Presbyterian Alternative Gift Market. We presented at and received a $300 grant from the Stillwater Lion's Club, a $500 grant from the Stillwater Noon Rotary, a $500 grant from the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary , a $1000 grant from St. Paul Lutheran Church and a $500 donation from a teacher's uncle. In the spring we entered a service learning photo contest, sponsored a successful school Penny War and held a Chipotle Night fundraiser.

2015-2016 School Year - Funds Raised This Year = $9401

In September we sold t-shirts and hosted our 6th Walk For Water on a beautiful sunny Saturday with a great turnout. In October we were winners of the Teachers For Global Classrooms Back to School Photo Contest which resulted in an award of a $100 Amazon gift card. October 27th we hosted a well-attended screening of the feature film The Good Lie, featuring an intro and Q & A session with Kuoth Wiel, who plays the role of Abital in the film. In November we sold gift cards, Dinka necklaces, copies of A Long Walk To Water, H2O For Life Kazuri bead bracelets, 2016 International Calendars and note cards at the 1st Presbyterian Church Alternative Gift Market and received a $500 donation from a teacher's uncle. In February we hosted a Valentine's Day raffle. To reach this year's goal, we once again applied for grants and presented to the Stillwater Sunrise and Stillwater Noon Rotary Clubs and St. Paul Lutheran Church. In Spring 2016 we received a $500 grant from the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary, a $1000 grant from St. Paul Lutheran Church and a $500 grant from the Stillwater Noon Rotary. In September 2014 we started this year's fundraising efforts with t-shirt sales and our 5th annual Walk For Water. October 30th we hosted a jam-packed, energy filled screening of the film Girl Rising to focus on the critical connections between water and girls' education. A donation was made by Valley Bookseller as a percentage of sales of t-shirts and books at the Girl Rising event. In January we shared our project with the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club, resulting in a $500 donation. In March members of our public speaking team presented to the Stillwater Noon Rotary Club leading to a $500 donation and the Leadership Team organized a school-wide Water Wall fundraiser in celebration of World Water Day. St. Paul Lutheran Church made a generous $1000 donation in April after a student presentation. In May students spoke at the White Bear Lake Rotary Club and Stillwater Kiwanis Club and invited friends and family to eat for the cause at a Stillwater Chipotle Night fundraiser.

H2O For Life Reaches $50,000: SJHS Students Will Try To Set World Record To Celebrate The Success - Stillwater Gazette - March 16, 2014

We kicked off the year with t-shirt sales and our 2013 Walk For Water was a new first - the first INDOOR Walk For Water due to pouring rain. On October 3rd we hosted a community presentation by Lost Boy of Sudan Moses Joknhial II. In late November we sold Dinka necklaces, A Long Walk To Water and 2014 International Calendars at the Alternative Gift Market hosted by 1st Presbyterian Church in Stillwater. Giving Tuesday brought in several hundred dollars from our students, staff and families. Thanks to a generous gift by a 9th grader in memory of a grandfather, we reached our $9,000 goal on December 16th. Forging ahead, in January 2014 we set a new goal of $60,000 Over 6 Years. We made great progress, with $550 donated by the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club and $750 by the Stillwater Noon Rotary Club. We wound up the school year with a Guinness World Record, a Benefit Concert featuring 25 musicians and a $1000 donation from St. Paul Lutheran Church.

During the 2012-2013 school year we sold t-shirts, held our third annual Walk For Water and once again hosted a successful evening presentation with a Lost Boy of Sudan, this year featuring Alephonsion Deng. During the winter months we won the Inter-State Studios Spreading Smiles Service Learning Photo Contest (!), held a Penny War and presented to the Stillwater Noon and Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Clubs. We reached our $11,000 goal in May by hosting a Benefit Concert featuring Sammy Brown & Friends and Crimson Horizon.

Fundraising for the 2011-2012 school year began in the fall with the sale of t-shirts with a new 2011 design, our second Walk For Water, a presentation to the Lake Elmo Rotary Club and ticket sales for an extremely well attended evening presentation by John Bul Dau. Winter events included a presentation to the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club and a Penny War. Once again, a few students "paid it forward" by donating their holiday and confirmation gift cash. In Spring 2012 we bagged groceries at Cub Foods, spoke to the Stillwater Noon Rotary Club and St. Paul Lutheran Church, conducted a Letter Writing Campaign and hosted a Benefit Concert. Donations were also received from H2O For Life and Valley Bookseller as a percentage of sales of t-shirts and books at the John Bul Dau event.

2010-2011 School Year - Funds Raised = $10,291!

During the 2010-2011 school year, Stillwater Junior High 9th grade Geography students set their sights a little higher, increasing their fundraising goal to $10,000 to fund the drilling of two wells. Student sold t-shirts featuring a new 2010 design, hosted a Walk For Water and sold tickets to the Benson Deng evening presentation. Additional donations were received from H2O For Life and Valley Bookseller. Some students "paid it forward" by donating their holiday gift cash. A Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day "Tap Into Tap Water" Campaign generated $870 in donations from SJHS students and staff. The Stillwater Area High School National Honor Society contributed $500 from their annual coffeehouse event. In February, AP Human Geography students presented to and formally requested donations from the Stillwater Sunrise and Stillwater Noon Rotary Clubs and St. Paul Lutheran Church. With the receipt of $500 from the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary, $1000 from St. Paul's and $163 in cash from the Stillwater Noon Rotary, students officially reached their $10,000 goal!

2009-2010 School Year - Funds Raised = $5663!

Students Making a Difference in Stillwater and in Sudan, Africa - Stillwater Area Public Schools Spotlight, April 2011 (Archived)

During the 2009-2010 school year, Stillwater Junior High 9th grade Geography students successfully met their fundraising goal of $5000 to fund the drilling of one well for a village in Southern Sudan. Funds were delivered through H2O For Life to Water For Sudan. This goal was met by selling H2O For Life t-shirts, bracelets, tickets to the Benjamin Ajak evening presentation and bagging groceries at Cub Foods. In addition, students presented to and formally requested donations from the Stillwater Sunrise and Stillwater NoonRotary Clubs. Additional donations were received from Valley Bookseller, H2O For Life and the Minnesota Returned Peace Corps Volunteers.
